Designed for resting, observing, and continuing the journey: LAB23’s benches are created by our designers to enhance urban furniture, always with the citizen in mind.

LAB23’s Wooden Benches

At LAB23, we craft outdoor wooden benches, perfect for metropolises, seaside cities, and any urban environment. Below, we will introduce you to some of our wooden bench projects to showcase the flexibility and variety of our offerings.

The three wooden benches we have chosen to analyze are the work of designer Stéphane Chapelet.

Mix Bench: this is a curved wooden bench that resembles the movement of a wave. It is 2 meters long and 50 centimeters tall. Made from hyper granite, exotic wood, larch wood, and WPC, it is one of LAB23’s main and most appreciated projects by our customers.

Emme Sunbed: as the name suggests, it is designed to transform into a sunbed and is perfect for new urban contexts, parks, and waterfronts.

This wooden and steel bench skillfully combines both materials: the steel undergoes a sandblasting, cataphoresis treatment, and is finally coated with PP powder paint in a choice of RAL colors.

The wood used is either Iroko or Okumè, treated with natural hydro-repellent oils resistant to UV rays.

Emme Seat: a variant of the Sunbed model described above, this wooden bench also features sinuous and elegant forms, yet it has a decidedly modern design. It is 820 mm high, with seats measuring 450 mm, 700 mm wide, and 450 mm deep.

These are just a few of LAB23’s wooden bench projects, but the main question remains: what is the best wood to use for an outdoor bench?

The Best Wood for an Outdoor Bench

For LAB23’s wooden benches, we prefer exotic wood, especially Iroko or Okumè.

Iroko is a tree native to West Africa and is known for its remarkable strength. Its wood color ranges from light pink to dark red, with grayish-white sapwood. It has a medium texture, and the grain exhibits noticeable differences from trunk to trunk.

Okumè, on the other hand, is a tree belonging to the Burseraceae family and is native to tropical West Africa (found in countries like Gabon, Spanish Guinea, Cameroon, and Congo).

This wood is also highly resistant and durable, even under heavy mechanical and environmental stress.
